Mavis Camera unveils Film Kit in its latest update (v7.4), adding LUT workflows and Open Gate capture to deliver a more cinematic option for iPhone and iPad creators.
At the core of Film Kit is a new color workflow. Users can import their own .cube LUTs and decide whether to preview a look in the viewfinder (without recording it) or bake the LUT into the final footage. This same approach also applies when using HDMI inputs with Atomos Ninja Phone, enabling either LUT previews or LUT-applied capture from a DSLR or mirrorless camera, as well as the iPhone’s built-in camera.
To speed up production, Film Kit includes a set of built-in filter LUTs—Bleach Bypass, Bunny, Cinematic, IR, Monochrome, and Vintage—that quickly give shots a filmic vibe with minimal setup. These looks can be recorded and carried through downstream workflows such as live streaming or NDI when a project needs to move from capture to delivery rapidly.
“With this latest version of Mavis Camera, cinematic decision-making becomes effortless,” says Patrick Holroyd, CEO of Mavis. “Film Kit offers a practical way to monitor or capture the exact look you want, whether you’re shooting on an iPhone or a DSLR/mirrorless camera, without slowing down production.”
To simplify color management further, Mavis Camera v7.4 introduces MLUTs (MavisLUTs)—a new file format that bundles multiple LUTs and their metadata into a single package. MLUTs help teams stay organized across different color spaces and workflows.
Film Kit also brings Open Gate capture, which lets creators reframe and deliver from a single take in multiple aspect ratios. The app provides two Open Gate modes: one tailored for Apple Log workflows and another for Rec.709 that can capture above 4K on supported devices. Apple Log 2 support is included as part of the update, aligning with Apple’s pro capture workflows.
In addition to capture and color features, v7.4 enhances cloud workflow with free ATOMOSphere Camera to Cloud integration, enabling progressive uploads to Atomos’ ecosystem for review, sharing, and collaboration.
Several smaller improvements round out the update, including new white balance presets for faster setup, improved shutter-angle snapping to common values (easier accurate 180° shooting), refreshed translations (French, Spanish, Chinese, German, and English), and a broad set of bug fixes and performance tweaks.
The Mavis Camera app remains free to download from the App Store. Film Kit features—LUTs, MLUTs, and Open Gate—are unlocked via a one-time in-app purchase of USD $9.99 (local prices may vary).
