St Michael’s Takes Centre Stage at the MTGV Awards

16 December, 2025 | Arts Spotlight

Kudos to Sarah (10K), who has earned Best Supporting Actor in a Female Presenting Role at the Music Theatre Guild of Victoria Awards for delivering a standout performance as Rizzo in GREASE earlier this year.

Director of Performing Arts, Mr. Tyler Hess, praised Sarah’s work, highlighting her mature approach to the part and her strong commitment to honing her craft. He noted she drew on successful past portrayals while imbuing the character with fresh depth and nuance.

At St Michael’s, Sarah is a dedicated student of Voice and Piano, sings with both the Harrison Choir and Chamber Choir, and is planning to pursue VCE Music next year. Outside the arts, she excels as a student-athlete through winter and summer seasons, maintains excellent academic standards, and contributes actively to school life. We are immensely proud of this well-deserved recognition and of the energy and focus Sarah brings to every endeavor.

We also celebrate Ben Moody, Deputy Head of the School for Teaching and Instructional Leadership (K–12), who won Best Musical Director for a Junior Production. Ben’s direction of GREASE was celebrated for its vitality, originality, and the depth he added to both the vocal and orchestral elements of the show.

Rounding out the evening, members of the GREASE cast performed at the awards ceremony, delivering an electric reimagining of “Greased Lightnin’.” With sharp choreography, striking costumes, and a bold creative interpretation, the performance energized the audience and underscored the students’ exceptional talent, confidence, and professionalism.

The chance for our students to perform for the broader Victorian community and to stand alongside other theatre professionals in celebrating the program’s growth was the true highlight of the night, according to Director of Performing Arts, Mr. Tyler Hess.

St Michael’s also marked a milestone year with a record slate of nominations and commendations, along with two wins, underscoring the ongoing expansion and impact of our Performing Arts program.

It was a proud occasion for our Performing Arts community and our school—a night that mirrors the passion, teamwork, and excellence of St Michael’s students and staff as the program continues to rise from strength to strength.
