A serious accident has caused significant disruption on Highway 400. The southbound lanes have reopened after a critical incident that left one driver fighting for their life. This event, which occurred on a Thursday afternoon, involved a collision between a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle, leading to a prolonged closure.
According to the Ontario Provincial Police, the details of the crash are still under investigation. Preliminary reports indicate the passenger vehicle collided with the rear of the tractor-trailer. "The tractor-trailer (was) moving obviously slower than the car. The car came in from behind and collided into the rear of that vehicle," stated OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt.
The driver of the passenger vehicle was immediately rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Fortunately, the driver of the truck was unharmed in the incident.
But here's where it gets controversial... The exact circumstances leading up to the crash remain unclear, adding a layer of complexity to the investigation. Heavy snowfall at the time of the accident likely contributed to hazardous road conditions. This raises questions about visibility and vehicle control.
And this is the part most people miss... The incident occurred on January 15, 2026. The lanes were reopened at 8:03 PM EST, after having been closed since 4:15 PM EST.
