Duke Energy Tackles Creedmoor Power Outage: Permanent Fixes and Reimbursements Explained (2026)

Creedmoor residents faced a frustrating ordeal as Duke Energy scrambled to address a power problem that caused widespread issues. This wasn't just a simple outage; it led to a cascade of problems, from flickering lights to malfunctioning appliances. Let's dive into what happened and how Duke Energy is working to make things right.

This story, originally posted on December 8, 2025, by WRAL reporter Ally Kadlubar, details the efforts to fix the problems that arose in Creedmoor. The core issue? An 'equipment issue' that occurred the day before Thanksgiving, impacting hundreds of residents and continuing to cause problems for over a week.

According to Duke Energy, the root cause was two power lines in the Creedmoor area sagging and making contact. This contact triggered an outage that affected approximately 2,300 customers for several hours. The spokesperson explained that the outage affected a large number of customers because the affected power lines were larger than usual.

But here's where it gets controversial... Many Creedmoor residents took to social media to express their frustration, with reports of HVAC units failing and some even needing complete replacements. Spectrum also had to replace cable boxes in affected homes and apartments.

The timing couldn't have been worse. With a WRAL Weather Alert Day looming due to snow in the forecast, the heating issues posed a significant concern for those affected.

Fortunately, Duke Energy took action. While temporary repairs were made, permanent repair work was scheduled for Wednesday.

And this is the part most people miss... Duke Energy also announced that they would reimburse Creedmoor customers for damages caused by the equipment issue. To qualify for reimbursement, customers needed to fill out Duke Energy's online claim form and have Duke Energy verify that their home was connected to the lines involved in the November 26 outage. If both conditions were met, customers were promised reimbursement.
