At the Crypto.com Arena on February 1, the 27-year-old artist (whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz) initially made an entrance in a subtle red outfit adorned with a cape. Despite her bold appearance, Chappell shared with Zuri Hall during the Live From E! coverage that she felt "overstimulated" while on the carpet. "People are just filming you, and it’s hard to know what to do about it," she confessed. "This part is definitely the most challenging aspect of the entire night for me."
However, she reassured her fans that she was feeling positive. "I’m not performing this year," she mentioned, "so this is pretty easy for me."
Even though Chappell is nominated for two prestigious awards at this ceremony, hosted by Trevor Noah for the sixth consecutive year, she has certainly taken a moment to relax after her whirlwind success leading up to last year's Grammys. In that event, she rightfully claimed the Best New Artist award and received a total of six nominations.
After nearly a decade of hard work in the music industry, Chappell finally achieved the recognition she deserves, and she took the opportunity to advocate for fellow musicians watching from home. "Thank you to everyone who supported me and helped me reach this point," she expressed during her acceptance speech last year. "I promised myself that if I ever won a Grammy and stood before such influential figures in music, I would demand that record labels and the industry, which profit millions from artists, provide fair wages and healthcare, particularly for emerging talent."
Chappell's rapid rise to fame wasn’t without its difficulties, even after achieving Grammy-winning status. She candidly admitted that navigating the world of celebrity can be quite overwhelming. "Honestly, I believe I would be more successful if I were willing to suppress my true feelings," she revealed in an interview with the BBC last January. "If I could ignore my instincts telling me, 'Stop, you're not okay,' I think I would have a bigger career."
Reflecting on this idea, she added, "And I might still be touring right now."
Fortunately for Chappell, her late grandfather, Dennis Chappell, who inspired her stage name, often reminded her that there are always multiple pathways to success.
These options mean that Chappell is not rushing into her next project. "There is currently no album in the works," she disclosed to Vogue last August. "I don’t have a collection of songs ready."
As she explained, "It took me five years to write my first album, and it will likely take at least that long to create the next one."
